About Macai

Macai was founded by Pete Hawes in 1989 with the Macai name coming from Mid Anglia Construction and Interiors. Macai cut its teeth in the interior sectors as a general contractor and was soon recognised as a solid and dependable company with a good client base and sound reputation. 

The second generation Nigel Hawes took the reins in 2006 relocating the company to the South East. With his leadership, new directorships and an energetic structure Macai Limited has grown its strong reputation in the market to deliver quality service. 

In 2010 Macai Projects Limited was established as an independent sister company with Bob McDermott being appointed as Managing Director. In its first year Macai Projects Limited was appointed as contractor, by Gleeds, ME Hotel build, a package worth £9 million. 

In March 2023 Alan Dowsing stepped up to head up the business in his role as Managing Director, Macai Projects Limited following Bob McDermott's decision to retire back to his home country of Ireland. 

Both Macai Limited and Macai Projects Limited are financially stable, in really good shape and ready to meet the challenges of 2024 and beyond.
